2011 DFA Reunion Notes:

1. This past year, a descendant of the Calvert County, MD Dares who immigrated from Berkshire, England in the 1680's matched our South Jersey Dare family's DNA - proving that our immigrant ancestors were indeed cousins!

2. Last year, a 1777 Dare Family Bible and an 1811 Dare Family Bible were donated to the Dare archives.

3. A number of old scanned photos have been emailed to me.  Also we were able to rescue a couple of Dare Family artifacts from e-bay.

4. An unrelated person in NYC found a Dare Family photo in a flea market and purchased it so that it could be returned to us free of charge!

5. The curator of the Malaga Campground Historical Society donated the personal effects, photos,  and papers of Rev. Dr. Alfonso Dare, founder of the Dare Family Association, to the Dare archives!  He was born and was buried in Monroeville, Salem Co, NJ.  Some of the items plus a synopsis of his lifetime achievements are on a display board at the reunion.

6. Rev. Dr. Alfonso Dare was pastor of the following churches:

1892 - Linvale Methodist, West Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ

1893-1894 - Hopewell Twp, Mercer Co

1895-1897 - Titusville, Mercer Co

1898-1901 - Hopewell Twp, Mercer Co

Wesley Memorial, Bridgeton, Cumberland Co

1913 - Simpson ME Church in Long Branch

1914 - Haddonfield

1925 - Toms River

1930-1933 - Red Bank

He was also president of the Methodist Conference Historical Society - involving restoration of abandoned churches.

7. We are looking forward toward more Dare DNA tests coming in from around the world to FamilyTreeDNA.com so that we can compare the results to ours.  It is important to use the same company.  Our experience has shown, and experts agree, that each lab varies a bit.
